On April 26, 2024, Keeler Women’s Center (KWC) celebrated more than 70 volunteers and community partners at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library and Environmental Learning Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Volunteers at KWC include many of the Mount sisters, along with several Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, who provide spiritual direction, retreats, and other spiritual programs. Many Mount oblates and other friends assist with activities such as English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring and weekly office receptionist work. Other volunteers come to KWC through partnerships with local community organizations that need a place to provide services close to where people in need reside.

KWC holds its yearly celebration for volunteers at places that are “hidden gems” in the metro area. This year, the gathering at the Schlagle Library and Environmental Learning Center allowed guests to learn about local flowers, plants, insects, and animals. Guests were invited to take seeds from a great variety of local flowers and plants. KWC gave each guest a starter flower pot and dirt so their memories of KWC’s gratitude for their volunteer service could take root.
