Sophia Center is a spacious setting for your church group or organization to gather for meetings, conferences, training workshops, planning sessions, and staff-directed retreats. All faith traditions are welcome, and we are happy to offer the use of our facilities. Our friendly Sophia staff is available to help with your needs as well.

Group Size

We can accommodate groups of 18 or fewer for overnight stays, allowing everyone to have a private bathroom. For groups of 19-27, it will be necessary for some individuals to share a bathroom with one other person. St. Catherine’s layout is designed with two bedrooms sharing an attached bathroom between them. We additionally have a limited number of rooms that are handicap friendly. If your group is looking for single-day use with no overnights, we are able to accommodate groups of up to 50.

Amenities Included

  • Conference rooms: We have large spaces with tables and chairs for your group, ideal for presentations. Also available are more intimate spaces furnished with sofas and chairs for smaller group or individual use.
  • Audio-visual equipment, including projection system
  • Meals, snacks, coffee, water: These are all included in the cost and are based on the length of your stay and how many people are in your group. Usually our visiting groups take meals in the dining room with the sisters, while snacks and drinks are provided at Sophia Center. We are able to accommodate special dietary needs for vegetarians, vegans, and those who are dairy and/or gluten free.
  • Use of St. Scholastica Chapel for quiet prayer
  • Freedom to walk the monastery grounds
  • Flexible day-time arrival, but with a special note that the sisters keep Sabbath from noon on Sunday through Monday afternoon, so ordinarily no guests are received during that time.

Additional Services & Accommodations

  • Overnight stays: Typically our groups who are here overnight will stay in St. Catherine’s, located across the drive from Sophia Center. If it is a small group, we are sometimes able to make use of the rooms in St. Cecilia’s, which is connected to the monastery.
