Celebrating our History at the Night of Dreams

The year-long observance of the Mount’s 160th anniversary concluded with a joyful celebration with family, friends, oblates, and donors at the Night of Dreams on November 12, 2023. The event was held at the Loews Kansas City Hotel, with 480 guests in attendance.

Guests browsed at tables with silent auction items during a pre-meal reception. After an introduction by emcee Sandra Olivas, Community Development Outreach Officer at First Federal Bank, Sister Mary Elizabeth Schweiger, prioress, welcomed attendees.

Speakers included Dr. Chiquita Miller, who described the services offered at Keeler Women’s Center, where she has been a volunteer for 20 years, and Mark Lepper, who spoke about the Benedictine Sisters hospitality offered at Sophia Spirituality Center. Dinner was served following a 160th anniversary video presentation, performance of the song “We Celebrate,” written by Sister Diana Seago, and a blessing of guests by the sisters.

Guests generously donated to a Fund-a-Need campaign, achieving a $100,000 matching grant. An oral auction conducted by the Nigro brothers led to spirited bidding. Popular items included a Vietnamese dinner for 12 by Sister Maria Nguyen, vacation trips, sports packages, and a handmade quilt by Sister Eleanor Suther.

The evening concluded with grand prize raffle drawings. The following winners received cash prizes: Suzanne D., Silver City, Texas ($10,000); Julian H., Atlanta, Georgia ($2500); Angie W., Omaha, Nebraska ($1000); Barbara T., Alpine, Texas ($500); Marka A., Katy, Texas ($500); and George M., Papillion, Nebraska ($500). After expenses, the Night of Dreams generated over $400,000 for the sisters’ ministries.
