Oblates Enjoy a Day of Renewal

Oblates gather in the Choir Chapel for Morning Prayer with the sisters.

More than 60 oblates and inquirers gathered at the Mount both in person and via Zoom on October 4, 2025, for Oblate Renewal Day. The day began with Morning Prayer in the Choir Chapel. The prioress, Sister Mary Elizabeth Schweiger, invited oblates to renew their oblation, and the sisters gave them a blessing.

The theme of the day was “Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor.” In the morning session, Sister Therese Elias and Oblate Mary O’Leary introduced the practice of lectio divina. Participants then practiced this contemplative form of prayer in small groups using a nature-related passage written by the Benedictine saint Hildegard of Bingen. During the dinner break, oblates and sisters enjoyed viewing an exhibit of art created by oblates.

Midday Prayer included renewal of oblation for Zoom participants. The afternoon session featured an exploration of the plight of refugees and immigrants in the world today. Oblate Teresa Warnick gave a presentation about different ways to assist immigrants and provided some resources on this topic.

The sisters are grateful for the opportunity to join our oblates in listening to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor and engage in advocacy efforts together.
