Twelve New Spiritual Directors Graduate from Souljourners

Twelve Souljourners students celebrated three years of study, skill building, practicum work, and fellowship at their graduation ceremony on July 12. After reflecting on their time together at a mini-retreat on July 11 and sharing a final supper together, the students welcomed family and friends to St. Scholastica Chapel the next day to witness and celebrate their graduation.  

During the ceremony, the graduates shared their understanding of spiritual direction, were anointed for this new ministry, received their certificate, and were blessed by the Mount sisters and by their guests. A joyful reception at Sophia Spirituality Center followed, where the graduates acknowledged the contributions and guidance of each member of the Souljourners staff and gave them a farewell gift. 

Graduate Margaret Harris commented, “Souljourners has been one of those deeply transformative experiences of life for me and for others. We found that God’s Spirit met our own spirits and hearts and infused us with new knowledge, deeper understanding, practical skills, and new ways to extend God’s love to others. There are many spiritual direction programs available today, but one of the great strengths of this program is that it is infused with Benedictine spirit and values. As one of our mentors said — and I have come to know its truth in real practice — ‘spiritual direction is changing the world, one person at a time.’”
