Seventy-five oblates and inquirers gathered at the Mount both in person and via Zoom on October 5 for Oblate Renewal Day. The day began with Morning Prayer in the Choir Chapel. Sister Mary Elizabeth Schweiger, prioress, invited oblates to renew their oblation, and the sisters gave them a blessing.

Midday Prayer included renewal of oblation for Zoom participants. The afternoon session by Oblate Stephen Bruns and Sister Barbara McCracken focused on the ways that we can invest in the common good through what we choose to buy and our financial investment choices.

Each oblate deanery has a representative called an “Eco-Connector” to help oblates stay focused and work together to take action on environmental issues.

Presentations focused on ways to support the goals of the Mount’s Laudato Si’ Action Plan to care for the earth and its people. In the morning session, Oblate Adele Sink used personal experience, prayer, lectio divina, and table discussion to explore ways to live in the spirit of “Green Reverence.” Her presentation included ideas about how to act in community to further environmental awareness and sustainability.

The sisters are delighted to partner with oblates in advocating for the needs of the earth and listening to the cry of the poor.
