Wangari Committee Supports BC Student Researchers
The Wangari Committee provided grants for two 2024 Benedictine College Discovery Day projects, which were presented to the sisters on April 25. The grants support research related to stewardship, sustainability, women’s equality, and environmental justice.
Abby Walterscheid investigated proteinprotein interactions in the ESX-1 secretion system, which is related to the development of tuberculosis, a disease that predominantly affects people of low socioeconomic status.
Kirstyn Crane and Juliette Lange explored the physical effects of S-Methoprene (a chemical found in many pesticides) on bee larvae. Exposure of this chemical to bee larvae could result in their death, which would adversely affect bee populations.
