Lingering in Lent

Am I doing things to help me become more aware of my dependence on God?

Lent is many things, but it is especially a time of spiritual renewal. It is a season to refocus. Although we hope God is always front and center in our lives, it’s possible we may have lost sight of God, or our awareness may have become more abstract and distant. In this time of Lent we make a conscious effort to review our priorities and deepen our relationship with God.

Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It is a time to prepare for the great celebration of Easter. We are now coming to the end of the second week of Lent, so it’s a good time to review how we’re doing.

Am I doing things to help me become more aware of my dependence on God?

We can ask ourselves, have I given a little more of whatever time, talent, or treasure I have to those in need. Have I abstained from things that are blocking me from gaining greater self-control? Am I doing things to help me become more aware of my dependence on God?

As I examine my prayer life during Lent, I like to ask myself if I am lingering more. Am I longing for more? Am I lovingly choosing to spend more time with God? There are so many demands on our time and attention; am I choosing to turn off social media or the noise around me and just linger with the Lord? I have found over my many years that if I do this, on Easter Sunday I can say I truly celebrated Lent.

Be assured of the prayers of all of our sisters that you and your loved ones have a most blessed Lent and Easter. We look forward to seeing you at Sophia Center when you have even more extended time to linger in the Lord.
