Wangari Work Day
This past week, the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica gathered for our annual Wangari Work Day, a tradition of caring for our home and the land entrusted to us. Named in honor of Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, who devoted her life to environmental stewardship, this day brings the community together in service and gratitude.
From trimming trees and tending gardens to cleaning cars, organizing, and preparing our grounds for the upcoming fall season, every sister lent a hand. The spirit of teamwork and joy was evident as we worked side by side, strengthening both our monastery grounds and the bonds of community life. Wangari Work Day reminds us that stewardship is not only about maintaining our property, but also about living out our Benedictine values of care, stability, and hospitality.
