Souljourners Residency 2025

The Souljourners residency week, held June 22-28, featured two keynote speakers, Lucy Abbott Tucker and Diane Millis. Fifteen students participated (four 3rd year, six 2nd year, and five 1st year students)! In addition, there were five interns and six staff members which included the three-member leadership team.
The students and interns were partnered with a Sister on Sunday evening at supper; the Sister became their prayer partner for the week. In addition to the keynote presentations, students participated in mini-courses and small group sessions, where they processed the keynote presentations and practiced spiritual direction. Sisters Linda Zahner and Elizabeth Carrillo each facilitated a mini-course, along with Lucy for staff and interns on supervision. Sunday thru Tuesday evenings demonstrated Benedictine values. Sr. Marcia invited the group to share at their tables what Benedictine value their supper table conversation highlighted. Srs. Patricia and Marcia read some customs from Sr. Mary Grace’s custom book and a video was shown highlighting OSB values. Monday evening S. Susan Barber coordinated a Taize prayer service. On Tuesday having been divided into three small groups each group experienced S. Suzanne Fitzmaurice giving an explanation of the choir chapel windows, S. Barbara Smith sharing her experience of Water by Women, and Oblate Janet Paper demonstrated three phases of bread making. On Friday evening each group shared a skit, integrating the week’s activities. Everyone participated in evening prayer with the sisters in the choir chapel.
As is noted from this writing, Souljourners residency could not happen without the community’s help.
