We have a Pope!

With joy and hope, the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica welcome Pope Leo XIV as the new leader of the Catholic Church. We are grateful for his humble acceptance of his election and his willingness to serve the church and the wider world during these troubled times.

We are especially encouraged by these words in his greeting to the people after his election: “Without fear, united, hand in hand with God and among ourselves, we will go forward. We are disciples of Christ, Christ goes before us, and the world needs his light. Humanity needs him like a bridge to reach God and his love.”

With Pope Leo’s leadership and trusting that Christ is with us, we commit to going forward with him, building bridges that will bring peace and justice to our troubled world.

Prayer for Pope Leo XIV

Faithful God,
You guide us on the path of life
and your goodness is our constant companion.
Be with our new Shepherd, Pope Leo XIV,
in his service of the Church.
Fill him with the power of your Spirit,
the peace of your presence
and the compassion of Christ.
May he walk with you,
in wisdom and humility,
and lead us, together with all God’s people,
to embody your love for the world.
