Lent to Easter

The resurrection is the ultimate triumph over sin and death, transforming sorrow into joy and despair into hope.

The journey from Lent to Easter is a profound spiritual pilgrimage that mirrors the human experience of struggle, sacrifice, and ultimate renewal. It began with ashen dust on Ash Wednesday, a solemn reminder of our mortality and the call to repentance. The forty days of Lent invite us into a period of self-examination, fasting, and prayer, echoing Jesus’ time in the wilderness. We long to strip away distractions, deepen our faith, and align our hearts with God’s will.

During April, we will walk through Holy Week and witness the depth of Christ’s mercy, love and sacrifice. Palm Sunday will remind us of the fleeting nature of human praise as the same voices that welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem will soon demand His crucifixion. Holy Thursday calls us to serve others as Jesus did, humbly washing His disciples’ feet and instituting the Lord’s Supper. Good Friday confronts us with the weight of suffering and sin as Christ endures the cross for our redemption.

The resurrection is the ultimate triumph over sin and death, transforming sorrow into joy and despair into hope.

Then, the silent darkness of the tomb gives way to the radiant dawn of Easter Sunday. The resurrection is the ultimate triumph over sin and death, transforming sorrow into joy and despair into hope. It is a call to new life, a reminder that, just as Christ rose from the grave, we too are invited to rise—leaving behind our burdens, our doubts, and our fears. In Him, we live, we rise, we belong. We resolve to walk in the light of His love and share the good news with the world.

On Wednesday, April 9, from 11:00 am-12:30 pm Sr. Anne Elizabeth Sweet will lead us in a reflection on the readings and rituals of the Triduum as preparation for entering more deeply into our celebration of the Paschal Mystery. There is no charge for this Zoom offering – it is our Easter gift to you. We encourage you to register and attend. Coffee and Silence on April 15 will be another opportunity to spend time in reflection and prayer. We hope for beautiful weather – come join us.

Know that during these holy days of Lent and Easter you and your loved ones are remembered in prayer by the Benedictine Sisters and the Sophia staff.
