Preparing the Way

Advent invites us to reflect on the significance of the incarnation, the embodiment of God in human form, and prepare our hearts to welcome the light and hope brought by the birth of Jesus.

The days of Advent, more than any other time of the year, invite us to reflect on the significance of the incarnation, the embodiment of God in human form, and prepare our hearts to welcome the light and hope brought by the birth of Jesus. These days leading to Christmas are characterized by a sense of joyful expectation as we engage in prayer, reflection, and acts of kindness, seeking to align our lives with the teachings of Christ.

The seasons of Advent and Christmas offer a renewed call to vigilance and waiting in patient anticipation for the Lord who comes in history, who is anticipated coming in majesty, and who comes in mystery and surprise right now. Jesus comes as a little child born to poor parents in a barn of animals. Who would have guessed? Now he shows His face in the most vulnerable among us – the child going to school on an empty stomach, the old man or woman who is forgotten in the nursing home near us, in the children of Gaza and Ukraine and Sudan, in the person who most annoys us. He comes in Eucharist and in quiet moments of contemplation and prayer.

As we embark on this exploration of Advent, we will trim trees, sing carols and celebrate traditions that enrich this season and help us gain a deeper understanding of its profound significance in the hearts and minds of millions around the world. Let us savor every moment.

We have our Winter/Spring calendar of retreats available now. We will offer many opportunities for you to gather in person or via Zoom. Plan to participate in one or more of our offerings as a way to continue nurturing your spiritual life in the new year. Be assured of our prayers for a Spirit-filled Advent and a joyous Christmas and New Year.
