Sister Marcia Ziska
The sixth of thirteen children, I grew up on a farm near Atkinson, Nebraska. I attended a one-room country school; however, it was my Benedictine second grade teacher who first had an influence on my wanting to become a teacher. I developed strong relationships with the Benedictine Sisters who taught me in high school and college; and these relationships strengthened my vocation. Enthusiasm and promise of renewal from the Vatican II Council ignited my interest in working in the church. One of the most privileged ministries in my 46 years at the Mount was coordinating a Rome renewal program for eight summers. Net-working with English-speaking Benedictines world- wide was truly a gift and an honor. Currently I am vocation director, do spiritual direction, and am a staff member for the spiritual direction training program, Souljourners. When time permits, I enjoy making jelly for both the community and the gift shop; and the community members enjoy my lemon meringue pie and lemon curd. I delight in taking photos for my Instagram posts and making photo cards.
