He is celebrated for his acts of charity, most famously for secretly providing dowries for three poor sisters, saving them from a life of poverty and potentially prostitution. Over time, this act of kindness gave rise to the tradition of gift-giving associated with his feast day, December 6th.

His reputation for miracles, particularly his ability to intercede on behalf of those in need, spread across Europe.
