The Feast of Saint Martin de Porres

Born in Lima, Peru, St. Martin de Porres lived a life of humility and compassion. The son of a freedwoman and a Spanish father, Martin faced prejudice yet responded only with kindness. As a Dominican lay brother, he cared for the sick, tended to animals, and shared what little he had with the poor. His holiness was rooted in simple acts of mercy and steady love for all God’s creatures. Today we remember his example of quiet dignity and his reminder that charity and humility are the true signs of greatness in God’s eyes.
