On this day in 1863, a small group of Benedictine Sisters journeyed to Atchison, Kansas, planting the seeds of a community that would grow in faith, prayer, and service. Their courage and trust in God’s providence continue to shape the life of Mount St. Scholastica today. Founders Day is more than a remembrance — it’s a celebration of the enduring Benedictine spirit that welcomes all, listens deeply, and seeks God in every moment. We give thanks for those first Sisters whose faith continues to guide our mission and our hearts.
