Sister Jan Futrell

I was born in 1934 in Oklahoma City, small then, recently being Native American land. My dad came from Kentucky, and my mom was born in Purcell, Ok. Five children- George (who died at 7 months old), then Mary, Johnny, Jamey, last me– Jeannie. We went to the brand new cathedra.  Soon Mercy Sisters came  for a school. When I was about three, cloistered Carmelite Nuns also came to our city, and we met them early. They even took me into their cloistered area to play and pray with me a bit. Later on, I felt “be one…!” That stuck. But high school was taught by Sr. Jane Marie Lueke, OSB, of Guthrie, Ok. So, it took going to college one year to know God’s call! Benedictine! I became an Enlglish and journalism teacher in high school and also published the school newspaper. All was fun, mostly, but then I began  expanding my education  in spiritual life areas. That led me to giving retreats, developing programs, and training persons who wanted to pass their faith on. At times I felt: who, me? How can that be? God’s response: JUST DO IT…
