Lectio Divina in Nature (on-site)

This day-long retreat introduces you to the practice of lectio divina with nature. Rooted in the early Christian understanding of the two Books of God’s self-revelation—the Book of Nature and the Book of Scriptures— “lectio natura” recognizes all creation as a living scripture, a sacred text. Listening with the ear of the heart, we learn to encounter God in the works of God’s own hands and attune ourselves to the divine presence in all things. Join us for this time of prayerful, experiential encounter with opportunities for personal prayer, journaling, and sharing insights with one another.
Note: While you will be encouraged to go out and explore the grounds, this retreat is very adaptable to whatever your mobility allows, whether that be walking the far reaches of the campus, staying inside, or something else in-between. Please reach out if you have any specific questions for us, and we will be happy to address them.

Sister Elizabeth has a Master of Arts in Religion and the Environment from the University of the South School of Theology in Sewanee, TN. She is a board and staff member of the Center for Deep Green Faith which provides offerings that blend eco-theology with eco-spirituality grounded in the Christian tradition. She is an alumna of the Center’s Contemplation and Care for Creation Certificate Program and provides workshops and retreats at Sophia Center and elsewhere.
