SUMMARY:Voices of the Heart: Exploring the Psalms (in 2 parts)
DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Biblical book of Psalms\, a collection of one hundred and fifty prayers\, give voice to the heart in the experience of all life-situations and human emotions.  They are words from the heart of God\, words God gives to us for prayer.  The first session\, January 24\, will be an overview of the various types of Psalms with consideration as to how and why we should make these prayers are own in daily life.  The second session\, January 31\, will focus on the so-called prayers of lament (over one third of the psalms!)\, prayers which give voice to the struggles of the more difficult times in human life.  These psalms not only give us words to express what we feel but  also help us find courage and trust.  Participants should have a Bible at hand for both sessions. \n\n\n\nPlease register by January 21. \n\n\n\nAfter we receive your registration\, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJulian of Norwich was an Anchorite in England beginning in 1390 CE and was the first known woman to write in English.  We know very little about Julian herself\, yet her work\, Revelations of Divine Love\, is well known and continues to be published\, studied\, and read by people today.  \n\n\n\nWe invite you to join with others in learning about Julian and her beautiful and timeless work\, Revelations of Divine Love. In our first session we will learn a bit about Julian’s life and times and introduce some of the themes in Revelations of Divine Love. During the following three sessions we will look at specific passages from Revelations of Divine Love and use them as a guide for individual contemplation\, prayer\, and small and large group sharing. For many women\, the second half of life can often feel as a mapless space that has few markers indicating which direction to go to lead a purposeful\, engaged life. In this retreat\, we will explore this terrain with Hildegard of Bingen\, a medieval Benedictine abbess and mystic whose prolific work in theological writing\, musical compositions\, letters\, and preaching tours all came in the second half of her life. Her theology of the feminine nature of God and the greening of the spirit throughout a lifetime can be a beautiful invitation and accompaniment for women who are seeking to be creative and courageous while looking at life from new perspectives and discerning their own faithful path of flourishing. Her theology of the feminine nature of God and the greening of the spirit throughout a lifetime can be a beautiful invitation and accompaniment for women who are seeking to be creative and courageous while looking at life from new perspectives and discerning their own faithful path of flourishing. Our dreams at night are very similar and while they often seem important for us to process\, we may not know how to do so. Exploring dreams through different methods and from other perspectives can be helpful as we look to make sense of the mysterious stories that God\, the Dream-Maker\, sends to help us grow in holiness and wholeness. In this retreat\, we will explore some basic dream theory and ways to work with our dreams to facilitate new insights into the meaning and messages in our dreams. Sharing during the retreat will require some openness and vulnerability\, as you are invited to submit a written dream to process with your fellow retreatants\, but you can expect the experience to be both rich and fun. DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLimited registration. \n\n\n\nJesus often spoke and taught in parables—stories filled with metaphor\, symbolism\, and hidden messages that turned usual circumstances upside down. Our dreams at night are very similar and while they often seem important for us to process\, we may not know how to do so. Exploring dreams through different methods and from other perspectives can be helpful as we look to make sense of the mysterious stories that God\, the Dream-Maker\, sends to help us grow in holiness and wholeness. In this retreat\, we will explore some basic dream theory and ways to work with our dreams to facilitate new insights into the meaning and messages in our dreams. Sharing during the retreat will require some openness and vulnerability\, as you are invited to submit a written dream to process with your fellow retreatants\, but you can expect the experience to be both rich and fun. These silent retreats will each be supported by several periods of centering prayer and welcoming prayer along with ample times for walking\, reading\, journaling\, rest\, and prayers with the monastic community of Mount St. Scholastica. \n\n\n\nPersons with experience of centering prayer or welcoming prayer\, as well as those new to these prayer methods are welcome. She completed massage therapy training at the Universal College of Healing Arts in Omaha\, Nebraska\, passing her national boards in 1999. Sr. Linda guides retreats and offers therapeutic massage\, promoting a holistic approach to health and well-being of body\, mind\, and spirit.

Throughout her extensive career\, Johnson has worked to articulate new images of God from within a framework of Christian orthodoxy. She particularly emphasizes the viewpoints of those who are marginalized within both the Church and society. Johnson’s theological reflections are deeply rooted in the lived experiences of diverse individuals\, especially amplifying voices that have historically been overlooked. \n\n\n\nIn her latest work\, Elizabeth Johnson considers planet Earth\, its beauty and endangered state\, through the lens of scripture.
