Sister Sylvia Kenkel
I, along with my twin brother, Sylvan, were born to William and Anna (Wingert) Kenkel in Panama, Iowa, on May 24, 1939. We were born to farmers, along with another set of twins, and were the middle children of eight. After attending grade and high school at St. Mary’s (Panama), I joined the Benedictine Sisters in Atchison on July 25, 1957. I professed lifetime vows in 1962. After teaching in Colorado, Missouri, and Nebraska, I attended and graduated from LPN school, and served as an Licensed Practical Nurse in Dooley Center at the monastery. I also served in retreat work, in summer camps for the handicapped, and in a variety of community projects. I like to be of service to others in whatever way I am able.
