Sister Agnes Helgenberger
I have traveled a long way from the Micronesian island of Pohnpei, where I was born, to Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, KS. I was taught by the Mercedarian Sisters and entered their community upon completion of high school. After one year of college in Guam, I and seven other sisters traveled to the United States to study, completing my degree in education in 1972. After returning to Pohnpei I became principal of the local public school for 3 years after which I served as a councilor on my community’s regional team for 8 years. In 1989 I returned to the United States visiting Queen of Angels monastery for a time of renewal, eventually transferring to this Benedictine community. As formation director, I participated in formation activities at the Mount. When Queen of Angels monastery became too small to remain open I requested to transfer my vows to Mount St. Scholastica, which I did on June 22, 2020.
