Oblate Renewal Day – October 1, 2022

  • by

For the first time since 2019, the monastery’s oblates gathered in person for the Oblate Renewal Day with the theme, “Listen to the Ear of Your Heart” (with some oblates attending via Zoom, as well).

The event gave oblates a chance to renew acquaintances with the Sisters and each other before joining the Sisters in the choir chapel for Morning Praise, where those who are in the process of becoming oblates were recognized. Those who are already oblates renewed their oblation and received a blessing from the Sisters.

After Sister Esther Fangman, prioress, welcomed the oblates, Sister Barbara Conroy introduced Sister Micaela Randolph, who gave a brief but powerful presentation on lectio divina.

Following lunch and Midday Prayer, Sister Esther accepted the renewal of oblation from those attending via Zoom. Then, Cathie Schulte gave a presentation on focusing, emphasizing how listening to one’s body is important.

Oblate Edit Snethen related her experiencing with restorative justice, which swaps the concept of justice as punishment to one of repair and healing, especially through listening.
