Monastery Goods: Our Community Gift Shop

Monastery Goods Gift Shop is located at the entrance of our monastery and features handmade articles and religious goods. Monastery Goods is open Monday through Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. and by request of the monastery receptionist.

Gregorian Chant CD

The Gregorian Chant CD features a late 1960s recording of the Monastic Schola of the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica. The CD includes chant selections and two sacred choral works sung by the 38 member group of sisters conducted by Sister Joachim Holthaus and accompanied on the organ by Sister Gertrude Greathouse.

Music Box CD

The Music Box CD contains many of the tunes on the metal plates played on the Music Box which stands in St. Cecilia's Hall at the Mount.

Afghans, doilies, pillow cases & runners

Afghans featured are both knitted and croqueted. Runners include a variety of embroidered and hand quilted types.

Baby afghans, sweaters & baby shower gifts

A wide selection of hand knitted afghans, sweaters, hats and booties are available. Other items include cloth books, wall hangings and hand quilted coverlets.


The books available are authored mainly by the Benedictine Sisters of the Mount. These include

  • Sister Mary Faith Schuster's "Meaning of the Mountain" 
  • Sister Judith Sutera's "Work of God" prayer book & "True Daughters" 
  • Sister Helen Buening's "Art Masters, Then and Now" 
  • Sister Joachim Holthaus' "Sounds and Silence" 
  • Sister Marie Louise Krenner's "The Twin That Tagged Along" 
  • Sister Mary Irene Nowell's "Women in the Old Testament." 
  • Also available are other titles related to Scripture and to the Rule of Benedict.


A variety of cards featuring art of the monastery are available. These include photos of the stained glass windows in the St. Scholastica Chapel, note cards featuring symbols in the Choir Chapel windows, icon cards from icons written by Sister Paula Howard, OSB, and representations of early Benedictine women saints, namely Hildegard, Walburga, Gertrude & Scholastica. Also available are occasion cards such as birthday, sympathy & anniversary cards. A select number of handmade cards and photo cards are also featured.

Christmas Crib Sets

The Christmas Crib Set features cloth figures made by Sister Marie Louis Krenner of the Mount. It can be purchased as a unit or by individual pieces.

Confirmation/Communion gifts

These gifts include necklaces, crosses, pictures as well as rosaries.

Kitchen items

These include saltcellars, mugs, refrigerator towels, guest towels, embroidered tea towels, potpads, and placemats.

Prints and framed pictures

Both framed and unframed prints are available.; Prints of a variety of icons written by Sister Paula Howard, OSB have been placed on wood blocks by Sister Laura Haug, OSB.; The Shop features a few of Sister Frances Yarc's original oil paintings.

Rosaries, medals and religious items

The small selection of rosaries includes those made by Patricia Seipel, OSB. Benedictine medals from Rome and Brazil have been supplied through the courtesy of our sisters who minister there. Other religious items such as plaques, prayer cards and medals are available.


A wide selection of soaps, both with and without fragrance, are featured as well as a wide selection of lotions.


A variety of woodworking items are available in the Monastery Goods Gift Shop. The interlocking angels and Benedictine crosses are handcrafted. Of interest to those ministering to the sick will be the Handcrafted Comfort Crosses made from a variety of woods such as oak, mahogany and walnut.
