SUMMARY:Mary\, Queen of Creation: Praying a Green Rosary
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis retreat has been cancelled. \n\n\n\nExplore the Church’s understanding of Mary as Mother and Queen of Creation in light of Church tradition and Pope Francis’ encyclical\, Laudato Si’. Experience how the mysteries of the rosary can help us enter into a healing relationship with the earth and grow in our calling to be loving\, faithful stewards of God’s creation. Through the example and intercession of Mary we seek to “look at this world with eyes of wisdom”(Laudato Si’ 241) and care for the whole of creation redeemed and restored by her son\, Jesus Christ. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSr. Elizabeth Carrillo\n\n\n\nSr. Elizabeth has an M.A. degree in Religion and the Environment from the University of the South School of Theology in Sewanee\, Tennessee. She is a board and staff member of the Center for Deep Green Faith\, which provides offerings that blend eco-theology with eco-spirituality grounded in the Christian tradition. She is an alumna of the Center’s Contemplation and Care for Creation Certificate Program and provides workshops and retreats at Sophia Center and elsewhere.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saints Philip and James
DESCRIPTION:Today\, we celebrate Saints Philip and James\, two of the twelve apostles who played key roles in spreading the message of Jesus. Philip was known for his enthusiasm in bringing others to Christ\, while James\, was a steadfast and faithful witness to Jesus’ ministry. Together\, they represent the diverse ways people are called to share love\, truth\, and faith. \n\n\n\nThough their paths were different\, both saints remind us that everyone has a unique role in building a better world. Whether through action\, word\, or quiet faith\, we all have the potential to make a difference in the lives of others. \n\n\n\nSaints Philip and James also remind us of the power of community and the importance of working together for a common purpose. Their lives encourage us to find our own way to contribute to the greater good.

SUMMARY:The Feast of St. Athanasius
DESCRIPTION:Today\, we remember Saint Athanasius\, a theologian and bishop whose courage and conviction shaped the early Christian Church. Known for his unwavering defense of the Nicene Creed\, he stood firm in his belief that Christ was both fully divine and fully human\, even in the face of great opposition. His life is a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up for truth\, even when it’s difficult or unpopular. \n\n\n\nSaint Athanasius’s commitment to faith and doctrine highlights the value of intellectual exploration and spiritual integrity. His work reminds us that the pursuit of understanding and wisdom is a lifelong journey\, and that each of us has the potential to contribute meaningfully to the world.

SUMMARY:The Feast of St.Catherine of Siena
DESCRIPTION:Today\, we honor Saint Catherine of Siena\, a powerful and inspiring woman who became a Doctor of the Church. Known for her unwavering faith\, deep spirituality\, and commitment to justice\, Saint Catherine was a voice for the marginalized and a champion of peace. Despite living in a time when women were often overlooked\, she broke barriers and became a respected theologian\, mystic\, and writer\, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and courage. \n\n\n\nSaint Catherine’s life teaches us the importance of listening to our inner convictions\, standing up for what is right\, and embracing compassion in the face of adversity. Her deep connection to God and her dedication to the well-being of others remind us that we all have a role to play in creating a more just and loving world. \n\n\n\nHer legacy is a reminder that powerful change can come from within\, and that anyone can make a profound impact.

SUMMARY:Good Friday Service
DESCRIPTION:Good Friday is a day of reflection\, remembrance\, and deep significance for many\, marking the crucifixion of Jesus and his sacrifice for the world. It’s a time to pause and consider themes of suffering\, love\, and redemption. \n\n\n\nThis day calls us to reflect on the power of empathy\, the importance of standing up for what is right\, and the ways we can support one another through difficult times. Whether through prayer\, quiet reflection\, or acts of kindness\, Good Friday invites us to embody the spirit of love and solidarity. \n\n\n\nLet today be a moment to pause and think about the ways we can show compassion\, bring light in dark times\, and work together for healing and hope. \n\n\n\nGood Friday Service will be held in the St. Scholastica Chapel at 3:00 pm on April 18th.
