SUMMARY:Dreams: Our Own Personal Parables
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWait-list\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is full. If you would like to register for our wait-list\, please do so! \n\n\n\nJesus often spoke and taught in parables—stories filled with metaphor\, symbolism\, and hidden messages that turned usual circumstances upside down. Our dreams at night are very similar\, and while they often seem important for us to process\, we may not know how to do so. Exploring dreams through different methods and from other perspectives can be helpful as we look to make sense of the mysterious stories that God\, the Dream-Maker\, sends to help us grow in holiness and wholeness. In this retreat\, we will explore some basic dream theory and ways to work with our dreams to facilitate new insights into the meaning and messages in our dreams. Sharing during the retreat will require some openness and vulnerability\, as you are invited to submit a written dream to process with your fellow retreatants\, but you can expect the experience to be both rich and fun. We will have some prayer time with Scripture and information/handouts about dream theory\, but the majority of our time will be spent exploring our night dreams. \n\n\n\nRegistration is limited to 6. \n\n\n\nPlease register by September 5. \n\n\n\nAfter receiving your registration\, you will receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. We never want our retreat costs to be prohibitive to anyone who wants to attend our programs\, so we are pleased to offer scholarships. Fill out our simple scholarship request form now! \n\n\n\n*Read about our cancellation and refund policy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBernadette Graves\n\n\n\nBernadette “Bernie” Graves has been intrigued by dreams since she was about 8 years old. She is a 2013 graduate of the Souljourners program. Bernie has been on the Souljourners staff since 2015 and offers a mini-course on dreams for the Souljourners students. She recently retired from 40 years of laboratory work as an immunohematologist.

SUMMARY:Rescheduled: Divine Harmonies—Exploring Spiritual Themes in Broadway Musicals
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRESCHEDULED TO JANUARY 30-31. We will announce the opening of our 2026 retreat registration in our monthly newsletter. \n\n\n\nEvery year\, thousands of people flock to theaters to immerse themselves in the beauty and grandeur of musicals. These stories\, set to music\, invite the audience into the lives of the characters in a special way through song and dance that follows the audience long after they leave the theatre. Come spend a couple of days enjoying various musicals from throughout the years and reflect on what they can teach us about faith\, morals and our connection to God. \n\n\n\nOur time together will begin with a social on Friday at 5:30. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSr. Suzanne Fitzmaurice\n\n\n\nSister Suzanne has served as campus minister at Notre Dame de Sion High School\, then taught at Cristo Rey High School\, Kansas City\, before joining Keeler Women’s Center as associate director. SUMMARY:Prayers of the Cosmic Christ: Reflecting on Teilhard de Chardin’s Vision (a 4-week series)
DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPierre Teilhard de Chardin was a twentieth century Jesuit\, scientist and mystic. His work sought to bring together science and faith through his mystical incarnational understanding of the world. De Chardin’s thinking was well ahead of his time and is more relevant now than ever. \n\n\n\nIn this retreat\, we will read Ursula King’s biography\, Spirit of Fire: The Life and Vision of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin\, which will be the basis for our weekly discussions. Additional excerpts from de Chardin’s body of work will supplement the reading\, and we will also spend time in group “spiritual exercises” to help deepen our understanding of his vision and how we can apply it to ourselves and our world today.  \n\n\n\n*Note: You are welcome to purchase the book on your own\, or we can order and send it to you for an additional $25 ($85 total). \n\n\n\nPlease register by September 1. \n\n\n\nRead about our cancellation and refund policy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRenee Neff-Clark\n\n\n\nRenee Neff-Clark has a degree in Religious Studies and has been a student of the Bible and a leader of Bible Studies throughout her life. The stories of women in Scripture have always held a special place in her heart\, as they represent and reflect the lives of all women\, both then and now. Although recently moved to Arizona\, Renee continues to share her love of scripture and poetry with us.

SUMMARY:The Sacred Life of Rocks (a 4-week series)
DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe concept of a “sacred life of rocks” can be understood through different lenses. Rocks can symbolize strength\, stability\, and the enduring nature of life. Even the most “ordinary” rocks have fascinating histories and stories to tell\, as they record the Earth’s geological past. Rocks can be seen as touchstones connecting people to their land and ancestors. Rocks can also represent the foundation of life\, the core of a person’s values\, or the enduring nature of relationships. Come explore with us\, what rocks have come to mean in Scripture\, science\, literature and our everyday lives. This series will be a combination of input\, faith sharing\, creative processing\, and prayer. \n\n\n\nPlease register by August 29. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Kay Whitacre\n\n\n\nMary Kay has worked in pastoral ministry in the Catholic Church for more than 45 years. SUMMARY:Healing—Time to Unbend
DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us in this guided meditation where we will focus on the story of the crippled woman who was bent over for 18 years before she was healed on the Sabbath by Jesus. Through the lens of her story\, we are invited to examine the things\, events\, or people in our lives that we allow to cripple us—that in essence keep us “bent over.” We are reminded that Jesus is calling us to “unbend” and rid our life of everything that keeps us from standing tall\, and that he is with us through it all. \n\n\n\nOur time together will include scripture reading\, a guided meditation\, quiet private reflection time\, group sharing\, and a closing prayer.  \n\n\n\nPlease register by May 5. \n\n\n\nAfter we receive your registration\, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. Therefore\, knowledge of the Enneagram and particularly\, of one’s personality type\, is required.  \n\n\n\nPlease register by April 29. \n\n\n\nAfter we receive your registration\, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. Through the example and intercession of Mary we seek to “look at this world with eyes of wisdom”(Laudato Si’ 241) and care for the whole of creation redeemed and restored by her son\, Jesus Christ. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSr. Elizabeth Carrillo\n\n\n\nSr. Elizabeth has an M.A. degree in Religion and the Environment from the University of the South School of Theology in Sewanee\, Tennessee. SUMMARY:Celebrate the Easter Triduum at the Mount
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days\, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery of dying and rising. The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil. \n\n\n\nJoin the monastic community and enter fully into days of deep silence and rich celebration of the Mass of the Last Supper\, Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion and Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord. Begin and end your Paschal journey with festive meals among the Benedictine sisters in the monastery dining room. \n\n\n\nPlease register by April 10. \n\n\n\nAfter we receive your registration\, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. We never want our retreat costs to be prohibitive to anyone who wants to attend our programs and so we offer scholarships. Fill out our simple scholarship request form now! \n\n\n\n*Read about our cancellation and refund policy.

SUMMARY:Where Art & Prayer Come Together
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis retreat has been cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience. \n\n\n\nGod designed us as creative beings\, but often we do not have the opportunity to explore or develop that aspect of ourselves in daily life unless it is specifically encouraged. We invite you to join us on this retreat where you will discover how art can be a powerful pathway through which we can converse with God. Part of our time together will be experiencing prayerful reading of God’s word (lectio divina)\, then experiencing art as one of the many ways through which to respond to that Word\, deepening our understanding and the significance of his word in our lives. There will also be time for silence\, private prayer\, sharing\, and creating (making art\, writing poetry\, etc.). It is our hope that you will return home with new and rich ways of responding to God in your daily prayer life. No creative or artistic experience is a requirement for this retreat—only the openness to create. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSr. Micaela Randolph\n\n\n\nSister Micaela has served in a variety of ministries over the years\, teaching in elementary schools\, and working in the Kansas City Archdiocesan Office in religious education. Other ministries she has been involved in include RCIA and pastoral assistantance in several parishes\, director of initial formation for the Mount St. Scholastica community\, director of the Sophia Spirituality Center\, and Souljourners staff. \n\n\n\nFor fun\, she enjoys playing the piano\, tap dancing (on rare occasions) and embroidery.

Poetry selections will include writings from poets such as Mary Oliver\, John O’Donohue\, Hafiz\, and René Maria Rilke.  \n\n\n\nPoetry is the deification of reality. —Edith Sitwell \n\n\n\nGod is the perfect poet. —Robert Browning \n\n\n\nEvery single soul is a poem. —Michael Franti \n\n\n\nPlease register for the series by March 24. \n\n\n\nAfter we receive your registration\, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. SUMMARY:Sabbath on the Lenten Journey—Experience God Through the Creative Expression of Collage
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, due to unforeseen circumstances\, we must cancel this retreat. Hopefully we will be able to offer it at a later date. \n\n\n\nArt can be a form of prayer—a process to center ourselves and open up to experience God. In this experiential retreat we’ll create sacred collage using mixed media\, incorporating images\, words\, decorative paper\, stamped prints\, and embellishments. Reflection questions will include “How did I experience the creative process?” and “What does my art speak to me of the sacred?” Our focus is the process\, not the product\, so one need not be an accomplished artist\, but simply be willing to play and engage with the materials. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWendy Deering-Poynter\n\n\n\nWendy is an ordained minister serving as a church worship director. SUMMARY:Contemplative Mandalas
DESCRIPTION:On-site \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile we know many types of prayer such as spiritual reading\, lectio divina\, liturgies\, and contemplative prayer\, few people are aware of praying with the spiritual art of the mandala. This Contemplative Mandala workshop introduces a method of prayer that is—as all prayer is—relational\, healing\, and insightful. One need not know how to draw\, for all that becomes in the created piece is the work of the Spirit. The Contemplative Mandala reveals the beauty of our inner being. This prayer art method was introduced to Sharon on a silent retreat and since then has remained a deeply personal experience of intimacy with the Spirit through the years. You are invited to explore the mandala art prayer in the sacred space of the Sophia Center. \n\n\n\nPlease register by February 28. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSharon Highberger\n\n\n\nSharon Highberger is a spiritual director and retired chaplain in Topeka\, Ks. She is commissioned by Contemplative Outreach to teach centering prayer and is an oblate of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison. In her book\, Dancing with Depression\, she writes of her spiritual recovery from clinical depression.
