SUMMARY:Come Have Breakfast: Meditations on God and the Earth (Week 1 of 5)
DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this 5-week discussion group! \n\n\n\nWe are excited to invite you to join our upcoming book discussion group centered on “Come\, Have Breakfast: Meditations on God and the Earth\,” by prize-winning theologian\, Sister Elizabeth Johnson\, SCJ. Throughout her extensive career\, Johnson has worked to articulate new images of God from within a framework of Christian orthodoxy. She particularly emphasizes the viewpoints of those who are marginalized within both the Church and society. Johnson’s theological reflections are deeply rooted in the lived experiences of diverse individuals\, especially amplifying voices that have historically been overlooked. \n\n\n\nIn her latest work\, Elizabeth Johnson considers planet Earth\, its beauty and endangered state\, through the lens of scripture. Her thirty short meditations explore God’s intimate relationship with creation\, encouraging us to expand our minds and hearts for the care of the earth\, our common home. “Come\, have breakfast” (Jn 21:12) reveals God’s loving desire that all people and living creatures be nourished and is a summons to extend that same hospitality in light of today’s climate emergency. \n\n\n\nPlease register by August 20. \n\n\n\n*If you would like us to order and send the book to you\, we are happy to do so for an additional cost of $28. Just include a note when you register and we will add it to your invoice. \n\n\n\nAfter we receive your registration\, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us which will include your invoice. We never want our retreat costs to be prohibitive to anyone who wants to attend our programs and so we offer scholarships. Fill out our simple scholarship request form now! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSr. Elizabeth Carrillo\n\n\n\nSr. Elizabeth has an M.A. degree in Religion and the Environment from the University of the South School of Theology in Sewanee\, Tennessee. She is a board and staff member of the Center for Deep Green Faith\, which provides offerings that blend eco-theology with eco-spirituality grounded in the Christian tradition. She is an alumna of the Center’s Contemplation and Care for Creation Certificate Program and provides workshops and retreats at Sophia Center and elsewhere.
