On April 23, 2022, Sisters from Mount St. Scholastica attended the dedication of the new Donnelly College building in Kansas City, Kansas.
Donnelly College was founded in 1949 by Bishop George Donnelly and Sister Jerome Keeler, of Mount St. Scholastica. Since that time, more than 80 Sisters have served in teaching, administrative and support roles on the campus.
The celebration began with a dedication of the chapel, named in honor of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, a 19th century Redemptorist priest born in Germany who served throughout the eastern United States. Kansas City Archbishop Joseph Naumann presided at the ceremony, with Sisters Esther Fangman, prioress, and Sharon Hamsa participating, along with Donnelly College president Monsignor Stuart Swetland.
The main ceremony took place in the college’s gathering space, where Sister Esther reflected on the Benedictine Sisters’ ongoing connection to Donnelly College and its importance to those of diverse cultures the campus serves, many of whom are the first in their families to graduate with a degree.
