St. Scholastica Chapel Window
St. Lucia

St. Lucia (Lucy), one of the seven women mentioned in Eucharistic Prayer I of the Mass, bears her eyes on an offering plate since various legends relate to the loss of her eyes. The oxen in the lower portion of the window recall the legend that when guards came to take her from her home in Syracuse, Sicily, to her martyrdom, four oxen were powerless to move her because of God’s sustaining hand.
