Sister Quentin Conway, O.S.B.

Sister Quentin Conway, O.S.B., 99, a Benedictine Sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kans., died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at the monastery. The vigil will be Sunday, Jan. 22 at 7pm in the monastery chapel. The Mass of Resurrection will be offered there Monday, Jan. 23, at 10:30am., followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
Born in Dixon, Nebr., Sister Quentin was one of ten children of Martin and Bertha McAllister Conway. Sister Quentin was postmistress in Panama, Iowa, before she entered her religious community in 1934. She received her bachelor's degree in education, with minors in history and library science, from Mount St. Scholastica College, Atchison, and taught in more than twenty schools staffed by her religious community in Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. Her longer service included years at St. Anthony, St. Joseph, Christ the King, and Sacred Heart schools in Kansas City; Sts. Peter and Paul, Seneca, Kans., and St. Malachy, Creston, Iowa. At her retirement, she had been librarian at the State of Kansas Youth Center in Atchison.
Her sister Alice also entered religious life in Atchison, later transferring to the daughter house at Benet Hill, Colo., where she died in 2003. The last of her immediate family, Sister Quentin is survived by many nieces and nephews and by her religious community.
