Sister Patricia Ann Donegan, 92, a Benedictine Sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kans., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at the monastery. The vigil will be prayed Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at 7:00pm in the monastery chapel, with the Mass of Resurrection there Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 am.
A native of St. Joseph, Missouri, Sister Patricia Ann (Helene Patricia) was the youngest child of Michael J. (County Mayo) and Ellen Connington Donegan (Galway). She had one sister, Mary Catherine (Mrs. W. F. O'Neill), and two brothers, John and Thomas. All predeceased her.
She entered Mount St. Scholastica after completing her junior year at Sacred Heart Academy in St. Joseph, and earned the Bachelor of Science in home economics at Mount St. Scholastica College, Atchison. She received her M.S. in home economics from Kansas State University; an administrator's certificate in education from Creighton University, Omaha; and was awarded National Science summer fellowships from Bradley College, Peoria, Ill., Hampton Institute, Hampton, Va. and the School of Mines, Rapid City, S.D.
Sister Patricia Ann was principal at Bishop LeBlond high school, St. Joseph, Mo.; St. Mary’s, Portsmouth, Iowa; and Capulin high school in Capulin, Colo. She taught at various grade and high schools in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, California, Nebraska, and Iowa between 1932 and 1982, and tutored in math, chemistry, and physics during her retirement. She also continued her staff work with St. Joseph Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) retreat program, and the Atchison Ministerial Alliance and Church Women United.
She is survived by her nieces Mary Therese Reichert, Kansas City, Mo.; and Alice Warren, Fontona, CA; by her nephews Bill O'Neill, Overland Park, Kans.; and Thomas Donegan, Naples, Fl; and by her monastic family.
