Sister Mary Norbert, Zug, O.S.B., a Benedictine of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kans., died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the monastery. The vigil service will be Monday, April 14, at 7 pm in the monastery chapel. The Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, April 15, at 10:30am, followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
Sister Mary Norbert was born to Jacob and Emma McManus Zug March 20, 1912, in Allen, Kansas, and was baptized Evelyn Elizabeth. She entered Mount St. Scholastica in January, 1938, and made monastic profession Aug.15, 1939. She was a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica Academy and College and spent most of her active ministry in Catholic schools in five states, including Christ the King, St. Benedict, and Guardian Angels schools in the Kansas City area. Her longest service was 20 years at Sts. Peter and Paul, Omaha, and Sacred Heart School, Papillion, Nebr.
Sister Mary Norbert was predeceased by her parents, her sister Genevieve (Sister Rosetta, also of the Atchison Benedictines), and her brother Emil, of Emporia, Kans. She is survived by her monastic family, her sister-in-law Nola (Mrs. Emil) Zug, Emporia, Kans., her niece Jan (Mrs. Jim) Burch of Parachute, Colo.; and grandnieces Kelly (Mrs. Paul) Molusky, St. Louis, Mo.; and Sue (Mrs Barry) Chamberlain, Grand Junction, Colo.
