Sister Mary Maud Foote, O.S.B.

Sister Mary Maud Foote, OSB, 89, former librarian at Lillis High school, Kansas City, Mo., and former associate librarian at Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas, died Monday, Nov. 28 at the monastery.

Sister Mary Maud (Laura Catherine) was the youngest child of Peter and Maud O’Brien Foote of Chicago, Il. Before entering the Mount community in 1944, she attended Loyola University, Chicago, and worked at the Chicago Public library. She made monastic profession in1945 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 2005.She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College with a Bachelor’s in history and psychology, and from Emporia State University with a Master’s in library science. After teaching in community schools in four states, she was associate librarian at Benedictine College (1972-1988) and then at the monastery library for ten years. She was a member of the Catholic Library Association, the Kansas Library Association, Common Cause, the American Benedictine Academy, and Benedictines for Peace.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Peter, John and Michael; and by her sisters Marie, Irene, and Frances. She is survived by her brothers Gregory, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Bernard (Barney) of Calumet City, Il.; by her sisters Mrs. Alphonse (Mary Jane) Cormier, St. Petersburg, Fl; Mrs. Gary (Patsy) Davis, Leesburg, Fl.; Mrs. Richard (Alice Mary) Cloonan, Porter, In.; and Mrs. Neill (Trudie) Riordan, Tierra Verde, Fl.; and by her monastic family.
