Sister Cassilda Krauland, OSB

Sister Cassilda Krauland, of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kansas, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kansas. She had been a professed member of the community for 82 years, having pronounced her vows Aug 15, 1919.
The Vigil service will be in the choir chapel, Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Thursday, Jan.10, at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in the choir chapel, Friday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 am.
Sister Cassilda began teaching in 1919 in schools staffed by her community. She received her Bachelor's degree in history with minors in English and science from Mount St. Scholastica College and achieved lifetime teaching certificates in Kansas and in Missouri. Sister Cassilda taught in Iowa (Panama, Defiance, and Portsmouth); in Nebraska (Steinauer and Beatrice); in Colorado (Antonito); in Missouri (St. Joseph, Salisbury, and Lillis in Kansas City); and in Kansas (Frankfort, Baileyville, Hanover, Kelly, Blaine, and Mission in Kansas City). She also taught summer religious vacation schools in Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado.
She received special training to teach a personal health program for Kansas City-St. Joseph children. When she retired to the monastery in 1981, she contributed to the Mount preschool program for ten years, and assisted in internal ministry.
Sister Cassilda was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Mantel) and Matthew Krauland; two brothers, Frank and Matthias; and by two sisters, Emma and Ann. She is survived by two sisters, Rose Roberts and Lena Krauland of Kansas City.
