Sister Alice Ann Kieffe, OSB 

September 29, 1912 - June 11, 2000

Sister Alice Ann Kieffe, 87, died June 11, 2000, at Mount St. Scholastica. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, June 14, in the Choir Chapel followed by burial in the monastery cemetery. 

Alice Lucille was born September 29, 1912, in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Emma M. Trausch and William Kieffe. She received her early education at the Cathedral school and joined the Benedictine Sisters in 1929, making her monastic profession in 1931. She was a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica Academy and College and held a master of arts degree from the Catholic University of America. She also took graduate courses at St. Louis University and at Azusa Pacific University in California. 

Her years of ministry in parish schools staffed by Atchison Sisters or the Benedictine Sisters of St. Lucy's Priory, Glendora, CA, a as teacher and for some years as principal, spanned 44 years in 18 parishes. She taught for one year at Mount St. Scholastica College and was librarian at St. Lucy High School in Glendora, also for one year. She was among the first group of Sisters to be missioned to California in 1943. In addition to teaching, Sister Alice Ann also served for brief periods as a rectory housekeeper and secretary and assisted in infirmary care at St. Lucy's and at Mount St. Scholastica. Since 1984, she had been in Atchison serving in various ways as long as her health permitted. 

Sister Alice Ann was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by one sister, Anna Kieffe of La Verna Heights Homes, Savannah, MO.
