Sister Adella Schieber, O.S.B.

Sister Adella Schieber, O.S.B., a Benedictine of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kansas, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at the monastery. The vigil service will be Monday, July 18, at 7 pm in the monastery chapel. The Mass of Resurrection will be there Tuesday, July 19, at 10:30 am, followed by burial in the Mount cemetery.
Sister Adella was teacher and administrator from 1937 to 1976 in the schools of Colorado, Missouri, and Kansas. She spent nine years at St. Joseph school in Shawnee, Kans., four years at Guardian Angels school, and eight years at Lillis high school, Kansas City, Mo. From 1976 to 1989 she worked with her brother in Indian schools in McLaughlin, S.D. She received her master’s in Latin from Creighton university, Omaha, Nebr., with additional work in counseling and guidance; and her bachelor of science degree in education with minors in Latin and mathematics from Mount St. Scholastica College, Atchison.
Sister Adella was one of eleven children of John and Frances Kern Schieber of Conception, Mo. She is survived by the two youngest children who also became Benedictines: Father Joachim of Conception Abbey, Conception, Mo. and her sister, Sister Mauricita and nieces Sister Marilyn Schieber and Sister Mathilda Mattson, of the Mount community; other nieces and nephews, and her Benedictine community.
