New directors named for Sophia Center, Keeler Women's Center
The Sophia Center in Atchison, Kan., and the Keeler Women’s Center in Kansas City, Kan., both will have new directors this spring.
Sister Carol Ann Petersen, currently the director of the Keeler Women’s Center, will take the helm of the Sophia Center, located on the north edge of the Mount St. Scholastica Campus. The center offers workshops and seminars that foster spiritual growth, as well as providing retreat space for individuals and groups of all faiths.
“Sister Carol Ann has built many relationships, approaches problem solving creatively and compassionately and has a phenomenal can-do attitude that is an outgrowth of her trust in God,” said Sister Anne Shepard, prioress, in announcing the personnel changes. “We know that she will bring these skills to her new assignment as director of the Sophia Center.”
Petersen follows longtime director Sister Eleanor Suther, who will leave the Sophia Center in January. “Sister Eleanor has done an exceptional job and she will be missed,” Shepard said.
Sister Bridget Dickason, now the assistant director of Keeler Women’s Center, will move into the director’s role.
The Keeler Women’s Center provides programs and services to women in the urban core through education, advocacy, personal and spiritual development. Petersen was the founding director for the ministry, which began in 2003.
“Sister Bridget is at home with the ordinary on the one hand, and on the other, she will bring new ideas to Keeler, a place where she has loved working for the past five years,” Shepard said.
It is expected that the women will begin their new duties in March.
