Join us for Holy Week observances
Celebrate the Triduum, or Three Days, and Easter with the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica.
The Triduum begins with a Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in St. Scholastica Chapel on the monastery campus, 801 S. 8th St., Atchison. The Eucharist includes a foot-washing rite. Visitors are invited to enter through north entrance of St. Cecilia’s on the north side of the campus.
On Good Friday, March 25, the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion will begin at 3 p.m., also in St. Scholastica Chapel. The service includes a dramatic reading of the Passion and veneration of the cross. Again, visitors are asked to enter through the north entrance of St. Cecilia’s.
On Holy Saturday, March 26, the Easter Vigil will begin at 8 p.m. in the monastery dining room with the lighting of the new fire of Easter, followed by a procession to St. Scholastica Chapel. A reception will follow the Vigil. If you wish to be part of the procession, use the Dooley Center entrance at 8th and U Streets in Atchison. Those not processing are asked to enter through the north entrance of St. Cecilia’s.
The public is invited to all three services; an RSVP to the monastery at 913-360-6200 would be appreciated for planning purposes.
On Easter Sunday, March 27, a community Eucharist will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. in the Choir Chapel at the monastery.
Parking for the services is on the northeast side of the monastery grounds. Visitors should enter via the Spring Street entrance to the monastery, and may enter St. Scholastica Chapel via its east entrance or the entrance to St. Cecilia's.
