Seeking
God?
Desire to know more about monastic life?
Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas, is home to 152 Benedictine
women who have lived according to the The Rule of Benedict for
148 years.
We experience the fidelity of God in the faithfulness of our community,
where we share joy and suffering, forgiveness and healing, hope and
comfort. Members engage in a broad variety of ministries while living
and praying together in large or small groups. Most live within the
region around Atchison, particularly the Kansas City and St. Joseph
metropolitan areas. A number are also engaged in ministry within the
monastery, either in some form of active service or through the prayer
and suffering of their infirmity.
“When s/he is to be received, s/he comes before
the whole community in the oratory and promises stability, fidelity to
monastic life, and obedience.” RB 58:17
