Between 1975 and 1996, the Conference of Benedictine Prioresses published a number of documents on a variety of topics affecting the lives of Benedictine women. In January, 2003, the prioresses recognized the need for a new document to make a statement regarding the crises of these times in both the Church and society by mining the wisdom of the Rule of St. Benedict, the Benedictine tradition and the lived experience of Benedictine women today. Wisdom from the Tradition was unanimously approved by the Conference of Benedictine Prioresses on January 31, 2006. Wisdom from the Tradition can be utilized as an effective tool for reflection and renewal in communities of both women and men, those in formation, oblates and associates, and with other interested publics.
