Ecumenical Programs for Spiritual Formation

We Offer . . .
1. Professional Supervisory Program
This program is for those who are already doing spiritual direction or
companionship on a formal basis and need to be under professional supervision.
Experienced professional supervisors will meet every other month with
directors to offer supervision. The program will be offered on both a
weekday and a weeknight to meet different scheduling needs.
Title: The Practicum in Spiritual Direction/Companionship

2. The Program for Spiritual Directors or Companions
This three-year ecumenical program offers certification of study in the
art of spiritual direction/companionship. Course work during one year
focuses on the Knowledge of God and the Christian Spiritual Tradition.
Course work in the other year focuses on Knowledge
of Self and Graced Human Development.
Besides attendance and active participation at all sessions, requirements
for Souljourners' students are as follows: assigned readings,
reaction papers, and book reactions.
During the third year practicum course, participants make a three day directed retreat in the summer, meet monthly with two directees, and once a month with a supervisor.
They also meet as a group once each semester at Sophia Center.

Attendance
Interested persons will be required to participate in a screening process.
Throughout the program, the participants will engage in an on-going discernment
process with the staff to determine if there is a real call to this ministry
of spiritual direction.
This program is a three year program and is designed to be compact as well as locally accessible.
It is required that certificate-seeking students attend both week-long
residencies and the required 16 weekend sessions [8 sessions each of the first two years], and complete the practicum
requirements. Persons who must leave sessions for pastoral or family
emergencies will be expected to make up the weekend or
do extra assignments by arrangement with the faculty.
Benedictine College of
Atchison, Kansas, is granting through its graduate program a total of
12 graduate credits at $70.00 per credit hour for those who desire to
earn graduate credits through the Souljourners Program.
Dr. Margaret Guenther, Former Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality
at General
Theological Seminary in New York, author of Holy Listening, Toward
Holy Ground, and others, is our consultant, mentor and good friend. She directs
and is an instructor in the intensive summer residency programs.
