How to Find Sophia Center

Sophia Center is located 35 minutes north of Kansas City International Airport and 25 minutes south of downtown St. Joseph, Missouri, on the spacious grounds of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas. Its rural setting is conducive to the atmosphere of quiet and reflection sought by the many people who come seeking a place of solitude and peace. As you can see from the map provided, it is easily accessible from several expressways and state highways. Transportation from the airport can be arranged prior to your arrival.

Sophia Center Take I-35 south to Cameron, MO
Hwy 36 west to St. Jospeh, MO
Take I-29 South to I-229
Turn right on I-229 to first exit
Turn right on first exit (crosses over interstate 229)
Follow this road to Hwy 59
Follow Hwy 59 into Atchison, KS
Take Amelia Earhart Bridge into Atchison.
Continue straight ahead on Hwy 59 to
Hwy 73 also 10th Street. (Pizza Hut & DQ)
Turn left onto 10th street
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.

Directions from KCI Airport
Leave KCI exit road to North I-29
Take I-29 north to Hwy 273 (Exit 20) and turn left
Follow 273/45 north continuing for about 20 miles to Hwy 59
Follow Hwy 59 into Atchison crossing Amelia Earhart Bridge.
Continue straight ahead on Hwy 59 to
Hwy 73 also 10th Street. (Pizza Hut & DQ)
Turn left onto 10th street
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.
When you get to the Mount

Directions from Kansas City, MO & Kansas City, KS
If you are coming from KCK take I-435 to I-29 north
Take I-29 north to Hwy 273 (Exit 20) and turn left
Follow 273/45 north continuing for about 20 miles to Hwy 59
Follow Hwy 59 into Atchison crossing Amelia Earhart Bridge.
Continue straight ahead on Hwy 59 to
Hwy 73 also 10th Street. (Pizza Hut & DQ)
Turn left onto 10th street
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.
When you get to the Mount

Directions from Lawrence, KS
As you leave Lawrence over the Kansas River S Massachusetts Street becomes
US 59 north.
Turn right onto US 59.
Turn right onto US-59 S/KS-4 East
Follow US 59 to Atchison.
Turn right on Hwy 73 or 10th street (Between Pizza Hut and DQ)
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.
When you get to the Mount

Directions from Lincoln, NE
Take Hwy 2 to Nebraska City,
Follow Hwy 2 East to I-29.
Take I-29 South to St. Joseph to 229
Follow 229 south to 6th street exit
Turn right onto Hwy 59 through south St. Joseph.
Continue on Hwy 59 (about 18 miles)
Follow Hwy 59 into Atchison.
Take Amelia Earhart Bridge into Atchison.
Continue straight ahead on Hwy 59 to
Hwy 73 also 10th Street. (Pizza Hut & DQ)
Turn left onto 10th street
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.

Directions from Omaha, NE
Take I-80 from Omaha (toward Des Moines)
around south end of Council Bluffs to
I-29 South (toward Kansas City)
Continue on I-29 to North of St. Joseph, MO.
Take 229 exit (south but east of St. Joseph)
Take 6th street exit - go south on 6th street which
becomes Hwy 59 south of St. Joseph.
Continue on Hwy 59 (about 18 miles)
Follow Hwy 59 into Atchison.
Take Amelia Earhart Bridge into Atchison.
Continue straight ahead on Hwy 59 to
Hwy 73 also 10th Street. (Pizza Hut & DQ)
Turn left onto 10th street
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.
When you get to the Mount

Directions from St. Joseph, MO
Turn right onto Hwy 59 through south St. Joseph.
Continue on Hwy 59 (about 18 miles)
Follow Hwy 59 into Atchison.
Take Amelia Earhart Bridge into Atchison.
Continue straight ahead on Hwy 59 to
Hwy 73 also 10th Street. (Pizza Hut & DQ)
Turn left onto 10th street
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.
When you get to the Mount

Directions from Topeka, KS
Take Hwy 24 east to Hwy 4
Take Hwy 4 north to Hwy 59
Take Hwy 59 to Atchison
Atchison:
Turn right on Hwy 73 or 10th street (Between Pizza Hut and DQ)
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.
When you get to the Mount

Directions from Wichita, KS
Take toll road 335 to Topeka.
Exit at or closest to Topeka Blvd.
Take Topeka Blvd North to Hwy 24.
Turn right on Hwy 24 to Hwy 4 East
Exit off Hwy 24 to the right and then go
left under overpass onto Hwy 4 East.
Take Hwy 4 to Nortonville where it will
become Hwy 59.
Follow Hwy 59 to Atchison.
Atchison:
Turn right on Hwy 73 or 10th street (Between Pizza Hut and DQ)
Veer to left lane and turn left on Spring Street between the Chinese restaurant and
the AmericInn.

When you get to the Mount
Proceed up the hill and turn in at the entrance on your right.
As you reach the top of the hill, the large white building on your right is Sophia
Center and the small red building on your left is St. Catherine
If you are staying at Lewis and Clark Hall, the building on your left, follow the drive up the hill and enter the door that connects the two large dorms.
If your program is in Sophia center, please come to the top of the hill and there are
parking areas east of Sophia Center.
The entrance to Sophia Center is on the south side of the building.
