A Benedictine Center for Spirituality
Sponsored by Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kansas
Mission Statement of Sophia Center
As Benedictine women, the search for God is central to our ministry to people of all faiths. The offerings of Sophia Center flow out of a rich monastic tradition that fosters a contemplative attitude and calls forth transformation and action. In the spirit of Benedictine hospitality and embraced by the praying community of Mount St. Scholastica, Sophia Center welcomes all who are searching for God, for peace, and for meaning in their lives.
Sophia Center is a ministry of the Benedictine sisters of Mount St. Scholastica. All retreats are on the grounds of the monastery, home to 160 sisters. Spend prayerful time in the inspiring chapels, share in the spiritual and intellectual resources of the sisters and, most importantly, experience worship with a monastic community known for its reverent, beautiful liturgies.

Located in Atchison, Kansas, on forty acres of rolling hills in a Benedictine
environment of a praying community, the Sophia Center provides
an ideal setting for prayer and reflection. Open to persons of all faiths,
the programs include courses on the psalms, monastic theology, spirituality
and history; reflection days for the elderly and for parish ministers;
directed and group retreats; Advent and Lenten days of prayer; days of
recollection and much more.

Sophia Guests may be housed at Marywood (pictured above) (7 bedrooms, 9 beds.) Guests may also be housed at St. Catherine's (below). (20 rooms, 24 beds).
