SISTER AUGUSTA PARLE, O.S.B. (1892-1991)
Sister Augusta was a native of Maryville, Missouri. She held important positions in the community of Mount St. Scholastica, being for a number of years the subprioress. In 1956 she. went to California to establish a daughterhouse of the Mount in Glendora, where she was elected the first superior of St. Lucy's Priory.

Sister Anthony was from Cameron, Missouri. She taught at all levels of education. After a short time in Mexico City in the 1950's, she returned to Kansas and taught at the newly-founded Donnelly Community College in Kansas City, Kansas.

SISTER DEBORAH PETERS, O.S.B. (1936-
From 1958 to 1976, Sister Deborah taught in various grade schools in Kansas and Colorado and in two high schools-LeBlond High School in St. Joseph, Missouri and the Academy of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison. She is now teaching in the English department at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

SISTER AELRED POTTINGER, O.S.B. (1908-1993)

Sister Aelred taught for fourteen years in elementary and secondary schools in Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado and was a member of the college faculty of Mount St. Scholastica, Donnelly, and Benedictine for 30 years. In 1963, she became a member of the team - the Movement for a Better World - headquartered in Washington, D.C. Sister Aelred was a scientist. She held a doctorate in radiation biology from Notre Dame and authored a textbook on radiation biology. Her article: "In Vitro Fertilization Poses Ethical Problems" written while she was in Australia was published in a newspaper there, The Advocate in October, 1980.

SISTER GRACIELA PARDO PROUTY, O.S.B. (1917-
Sister Graciela is a native of Chile in South America and graduated from the University of Chile. In Chile she operated her own pharmacy. After coming to the United States she graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, and taught in the language department in colleges in Kansas as well as in Seattle. Some years later she became a Benedictine Sister at Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas. Sister Graciela is an active member of the American Translators Association.

SISTER JOHNETTE PUTNAM, O.S.B. (1933-
Sister Johnette Putnam has been an elementary and secondary teacher, former prioress of St. Scholastica Priory, Covington, Louisiana, and former councilor and president of the Federation of St. Scholastica. She is a retreat director, lecturer, and has given numerous workshops. At present she is a spiritual director as well as working at Sophia Center, the Benedictine Spirituality Center of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kansas.

Sister Micaela Randolph taught elementary school for twenty-five years and served the archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas, as a religion consultant for five years. SISTER MARY RARDIN, O.S.B. (1952-
Dr. Mary Rardin is clinical assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. She served three years as a Naval Medical Officer and then completed her family practice residency at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. She worked for several years in private practice and in several community clinics, providing health care to uninsured poor, homeless and HIV patients. Her interests include infectious diseases, cost-efficacy and women's health. In the writing mentioned below, Dr. Rardin wrote the section on pneumonia.

Sister Andrea came to Mount St. Scholastica from Kansas City, Missouri. She spent more than fifty years as an educator in schools of Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa, often holding the dual role of teacher and principal. She was the first instructor in the Mount Mini School, 1984-1989.

Sister Eusebia was born at Oak Grove, Minnesota. Except for a few years in Colorado and Kansas City, Kansas, her teaching career was devoted to Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison.

Sister Felicia came from Paxico, Kansas and lived to be 100 years old. She was an educator and historian for more than sixty years, serving as teacher and principal in schools of this four-state area and Colorado.

SISTER MARY AUSTIN SCHIRMER, O.S.B. (1919-1992)
Sister Mary Austin came to Kansas from Newark, New Jersey. A teacher for twenty-six years at primary and college levels, she was an outstanding educator and monastic leader. In 1966 she was elected prioress of her religious community, Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison., a position she held until 1976. During that time Dooley Center for the community's retirement needs was built. Then, in 1976, she founded the Archdiocesan Office for Services to the Aging which she directed for sixteen years.

Sister Mary Faith was a prolific writer. She had weekly columns in The Eastern Kansas Register, The Leaven, and in The St. Joseph NewsPress, St. Joseph, Missouri. She has authored two tape cassettes, one on non-violence as a viable alternative to war, and one on writing poetry. She was the editor of "Sunflower Petals." Some of her writings are listed below.

SISTER DIANA SEAGO, O.S.B. (1949-

Sister Diana graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in English. She went on to receive a certificate in Pastoral Theology from St. Norbert College, DePere, Wisconsin in 1985. She served as director of Planned Giving at Benedictine College for 6 years and acting director of Development for 1 year. Presently she is Director of Computer Services and Website Administrator at Mount St. Scholastica. She is a member of the HTML Writers Guild, the Scriptorium and "Sister-l" Advisory Board. Sister Diana was named to "Who's Who in the Midwest" in 1998 and "Who's Who in America" in 2000.

SISTER ROSE MARIE STALLBAUMER, O.S.B. (1947-
Sister Rose Marie Stallbaumer holds a master's degree in educational administration from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee. She was in elementary teaching and/or administration from 1968 through 1988. Since 1988 Sister Rose Marie was business manager for the Benedictine Sisters at Mount St. Scholastica. In 2000 she was began serving as Treasurer of the community.

SISTER MACRINA STRAUB, O.S.B. (1899-1981)
Sister Macrina was a teacher and administrator. She spent fifty-seven years in the schools of this four-state area. She was a native of Wamego, Kansas.

SISTER BEDE SULLIVAN, O.S.B. (1915-1993)
Sister Bede was the editor of Doveflights, a compilation of poems written by the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica. After teaching in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado and Nebraska, Sister Bede spent twenty-one years in the diocese of Victoria, British Columbia. Print, film, television, and tape media were her forte. She became a well-known lecturer, writer, teacher and workshop leader.

SISTER HELEN SULLIVAN, O.S.B. (1907-1999)
Sister Helen taught mathematics at Mount St. Scholastica College and other higher educational institutions. In 1981, her publications and writings related to her work were deposited in the archives at the Smithsonian's mathematical division. Sister Helen was honored at a special program at the Smithsonian Museum that year for women who had received the Ph.D in mathematics prior to 1940.

SISTER NORINE SULLIVAN, O.S.B. (1906-1997)
Sister Norine was born near Spring Fork, Missouri. For four years she taught in rural schools near her home. After joining the Benedictine community of Mount St. Scholastica, she held positions as teacher and principal in schools of this four-state area.

SISTER JUDITH SUTERA, O.S.B. (1952-
Sister Judith Sutera holds undergraduate degrees in psychology and sociology, and master's degrees in counseling and monastic theology. She has been an associate editor for Peregrina Publishing company, a Canadian publisher of resources in the history of monastic and feminine spirituality. She is one of two editors of Magistra which features translations of sources and original research in the history of women's spirituality. She is on the editorial board of the American Benedictine Review, as well as being editor-in-chief of The American Monastic Newsletter sponsored by the American Benedictine Academy. She also serves on the national steering committee for the Conference on the History of Women Religious. Sister Judith is employed in manual labor in the maintenance and groundskeeping department of her monastery. In addition, she teaches courses in monastic spirituality and works with the Sophia Retreat Center there and has given numerous presentations, retreats and workshops for monastic communities.

SISTER ELEANOR SUTHER, O.S.B. (1942-
Sister Eleanor is a charter member of the Rural Ministry Collegium and was on the Board of Directors for the National Catholic Rural Life Conference, 1972-1975 and for the Edwin Vincent O'Hara Institute for Rural Ministry Education, 1983-1984. Presently she works for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas as a consultant for Evangelization and Adult Spirituality.
