Threshold Winter 2006
Night of Dreams 2006
Thanks to many good friends, more dreams of spreading the love of learning came true on November 12. The annual Night of Dreams dinner and auction was a huge success. It is only possible because of the energy and commitment of a fabulous development advisory group. It’s not all glamour for them in the hours leading up to the event.
More than 600 people, the largest crowd ever, attended the banquet at the KCI Expo Center. Attendees could also shop for over two hundred silent auction items, of many types in many price ranges – an excellent way to start one’s Christmas shopping and help a worthy cause. Pictured at left enjoying the meal are the diners at a table sponsored by Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home: (left to right) Susie and Tom Marlatt, Luke Quinn, Maureen Mulholland, and Sharon Pruett.
The oral auction featured some of the more common attractions, such as vacations and hand-crafted items, but a purebred beagle puppy was the only one who could plead his own case. He and the auctioneer are making an irresistable appeal to Mary Carol and Dan Garrity (left). The bidding was going so well that the breeders offered a second puppy, so both the Garritys and Jack Bowers (below right) went home with a new family member. Both puppies got named in honor of the Mount; the Garrity dog is now “Sissy” and the Bowers dog “Dooley.”

The gala is also attended by a large number of the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica and offers an opportunity for visiting with many friends and family. The proceeds from the event are used to finance such ministries as Sophia Center, Happy Hearts Learning Center, the Music Conservatory, counseling center, women’s centers and the education of African Benedictine women.
Although Elmer Fangman (left) has a longing eye on the hybrid car that was one of the raffle prizes, he was not able to take it home. The winner was John Perdue of Atchison, who had a choice of the car, a Harley cycle, or $15,000 cash. Mr. & Mrs. Dave Ruf were the winners of the Parkville getaway bed & breakfast weekend, Pauline Caraher won the Atchison getaway weekend, and Marianne Lumpe will be enjoying a celebrity golf day at the National Golf Club.

(at right) Mr. Perdue later received his check from Sister Anne, as Sister Mary Agnes, director of development, and Sister Mary Margaret Bunck, his cousin, looked on. The sisters were doubly blessed when Mr. Perdue decided to donate the money back to the community. Far-reaching are the dreams of the sisters, of those who support them so generously, and of all who will benefit and have their dreams made real.
