Woman at the Well

From the beginning
The Spirit of God
Moves
Over the waters
From whose depths
Come all that live.

How many women
From birth water
To well water
Carry life.

Womb, well;
Fertile, refreshing
Gift
To the desert heart.

Woman at the well
Spirit’s presence
Welcome
Gift
Reminding us
As we, too, wait
For that presence.

Life-giving
Sign
A kindness
We offer
Each other
From the desert heart
To the desert heart.
