Oblates of Mount St. Scholastica

Benedictine oblates are Christians--lay or clerical, single or married--who choose to be associated with a particular monastery. The Oblate seeks to live a life in harmony with the spirit of Saint Benedict as revealed in the Rule of Saint Benedict and its contemporary expression.

The purpose of being affiliated with a Benedictine community is to share in the prayer of the monastery and in its efforts to live more completely what it means to be a Christian. Oblates are helped and guided by the teachings of Christ as set down and interpreted by St. Benedict in his Rule. Their chief concern is striving to be good disciples of Christ and living a full Christian life. They are aided in developing their own spirituality through regular personal prayer, study of the scriptures and the Holy Rule and spiritual reading. St. Benedict's Rule relies principally on the Scriptures, so it is very Christ-centered.

Mount St. Scholastica has over 125 oblates. Regional groups of oblates meet regularly in Atchison, Kansas City, Topeka, and St. Joseph.
