Keeler Women's Center Recognized by Zonta Club
of Johnson County
Keeler Women's Center was recognized on the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day by the Zonta Club of Johnson County. Members brought yellow roses and cookies for the staff and volunteers and gift packages of personal care items for the women who come to Keeler for assistance.
Celebrated annually on 8 March, International Women's Day (IWD) was officially established in 1977 by the United Nations as a day for women's rights and international peace; however, the earliest International Women's Day celebration dates back to 1911 when more than one million women and men in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland attended IWD rallies campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, hold public office and end discrimination. The 2011 International Women's Day, therefore, marks 100 years of International Women's Day being celebrated around the world. March 8th also marks Zonta Rose Day, an opportunity for Zonta clubs around the world to raise awareness in their local communities of Zonta International's mission to advance the status of women worldwide.
Dolo Otto, President, Zonta Club of Johnson County, KS, said, "We are delighted to have identified Keeler Women’s Center for partnership in service, and we look forward to strengthening the relationship!"
