+Sister Pulcheria Lager, OSB

Sister Pulcheria Lager, 94, died at Mount St. Scholastica, Wednesday, December 15, 1999.

Clara Veronica, the seventh of 12 children of John Frederick and Agnes Fox Lager, was born March 29, 1905, at Clyde, Mo. She received her elementary education at St. Benedict's parish school and her secondary education at St. Joseph's Academy there. In 1928 she joined the Benedictine Sisters and made her monastic profession in 1930.

Sister Pulcheria began teaching in 1930 and continued in the classroom until 1979.She held a bachelor of arts degree from Mount St. Scholastica College and a master's degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebr. Both degrees were in education with minors in mathematics and science. She taught in schools staffed by the Benedictine Sisters in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri. She was principal of schools at St. Mary's, Portsmouth, Iowa; Capulin School, Colorado; Sts. Peter and Paul, Seneca; St. Joseph, Atkinson, Nebr.; St. Joseph, Beatrice, Nebraska; and St. Bernadette, Kansas City, Missouri. Her last formal teaching was at Lillis High School, Kansas City, Mo. After Sister Pulcheria retired to the monastery, she tutored for Mount St. Scholastica Academy, Maur Hill, and The Mount Community Center, worked with a stamp collection and performed various domestic duties.

Sister Pulcheria was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters and is survived by one sister, Sister Mary Luca Lager of Atchison, and many nieces and nephews.
