Barbara Smith, OSB makes First Monastic Profession
Sister
Barbara Smith, OSB, made her first monastic profession on April 3,
2005, with the Benedictine sisters of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison,
Kansas. She was raised in Edwardsville, Illinois, the daughter of Myrna
and Donald Smith, who still reside there. After earning a degree in zoology
from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, she also worked as a
hospital chaplain and at the Benedictine monastery in Belcourt, North
Dakota before entering Mount St. Scholastica in 2002. Having completed
her initial formation, she makes the first profession for a period of
three years before making lifetime commitment.
